Our kits are designed to be beginner-friendly, but a little guidance never hurts! Here’s how to (more or less) guarantee a successful crop:

Oyster Kits

• Set up in ideal conditions: After incubation, mushrooms thrive in humid environments. Place the kit somewhere with indirect light and good airflow.
• Keep it moist: A bit of care goes a long way. Mist the kit twice daily with a clean spray bottle to maintain the perfect moisture level - aim for the lined walls of the box and surface of the black substrate bag (not the mushrooms themselves)
• Harvest at the right time: Keep an eye on growth. Harvest your mushrooms when their caps are almost flat, before they wrinkle and drop their spores! 

Lion's Mane Kit

Our Lion's Mane kit contains a live fruiting block which requires specific storage conditions and to be used within a certain timeframe. We recommend getting started on your Lion's Mane kit as soon as it arrives, otherwise please make sure to store the fruiting block at 2 - 8 degrees celsius (in the fridge) for up to 14 days.

• Prepare your block: Make sure to follow the step-by-step guide provided with your kit, ensuring all surfaces and equipment used during the set up stage is clean.
• Finding the right temperature: Find a suitable place to begin growing with a temperature between 16 - 21 degrees celsius.
• Lighting: Make sure your block has access to natural light but not direct, bright sunlight.
• Let them breathe: Your fruiting block will be wanting a nice amount of airflow during the growing process. We recommend making sure that the humidity bag is removed for a couple of minutes, each time you spray!

Log Kits 

All of our Log Kits can be purchased as Gift Kits. 

• Getting the right Log: For our Oyster Log Kit, we recommend using softwoods like Willow or Birch, and certain hardwoods such as Elm. For our Shiitake Kit, we suggest hardwoods like Beech and Oak. Finally, for our Turkey Tail Kit, the best options are hardwoods like Birch and Oak.
• Positioning: Make sure the log is placed in a sheltered area, away from direct sunlight and wind. You also want to keep it off the ground to avoid contamination from other fungi. 

Can you use a mushroom grow kit more than once?

Yes, many mushroom grow kits can produce multiple flushes of mushrooms with a little patience. After harvesting your first crop, keep the substrate moist and in the right conditions to encourage another crop to grow.
